THIS IS NOT AN INVITATION TO BID – THAT WILL COME OUT IN EARLY 2022. THE PURPOSE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS TO SEE WHAT CONTRACTORS MIGHT BE INTERESTED WHEN THE BID DOES COME OUT AND COULD PROVIDE SOME PRELIMINARY ROUGH ESTIMATES OF WHAT THEY THINK THE COST MIGHT BE WITHOUT COMMITTING TO THE AMOUNT
HARDWICK TOWN HOUSE EGRESS & ACCESSIBILITY
In an effort to preserve and improve the condition of the historic Hardwick Town House, the Northeast Kingdom Arts Council (NEKarts Council) is funding a project that will replace two aging fire escapes and add ADA accessibility to the interior stage. In this project, both exterior fire escape stairs will be removed and the building exterior restored/repaired as needed, on NW side of building the balcony exit door will be returned to a window. There will be new construction of a stair tower for emergency egress from the building and installation of an ADA compliant lift to allow handicap access to the interior stage area. Interior egress and accessibility will be constructed according to Architectural Designs provided by Cushman Design Group. The preliminary plans for construction are available at Pre-Bid Meeting.
Services The services being sought are for a general contractor, following plans developed for the project, to remove the existing wooden fire escapes, repair/replace damaged siding, restore a window where a doorway now exists, and construct an enclosed stair tower to the second floor to provide appropriate egress from the building. Work will also include the installation of a wheel chair lift next to the stage. A prefabricated lift package unit would be appropriate for this particular project (see attached recommendation). The general contractor selected for the project needs to ensure compliance with the Secretary of the Interior Standards for the preservation, rehabilitation, restoration, and reconstruction of historic properties.
This project is being funded by a combination of funds from NEKarts Council, the Freeman Foundation, and private donations. The selected contractor would be expected to commence work June 1, 2022 and complete the project by December 1, 2022.
